ANCHOR YOURSELF IN SCRIPTURE

Posted on March 12, 2025 by Ron Edwards

What will your final words be to your family and friends? In the case of the Apostle Paul, his final message came from a Roman cell, written to his protégé Timothy as he faced execution under Emperor Nero. The letter of 2 Timothy, often acknowledged as his last known correspondence, brims with urgency — calling for faithfulness to the gospel, resilience in suffering, and vigilance against false teaching. Yet above all, Paul pointed to the ‘God-breathed’ word as the ultimate authority for “teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). In just a few words, his parting counsel to a world he’d soon depart from was simple yet profound: Anchor yourself in Scripture.

God’s entire word echoes this urgency as it calls us to hold fast to its richness as if our very lives hinge on it. But this only makes perfect sense when we recognize that Scripture, as God’s inspired revelation, guides us from this life to the next, where, for those in Christ, our present is tethered to eternity’s promise.

And this idea goes back to long before Paul, in which Ecclesiastes explained how Scripture speaks to every moment of life: “For everything there is a season… a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time for war, and a time for peace” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). It’s a reminder that God’s word anticipates all we face.

Elsewhere, in Psalm 119:105, we read how the Bible is the “lamp” and “light” that guides us. Both Jeremiah and Psalm 1 characterize the person who treasures Scripture as someone who “is like a tree planted by water,” not fearing heat nor anxious of drought, but firmly planted and bearing fruit. “[H]is delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. … In all that he does, he prospers” (Psalm 1:2-3). Even Jesus Himself prayed for us to be in the word. To the God of the universe, His Father above, He prayed on our behalf: “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth” (John 17:17).

If Scripture reigns clear, and even Jesus prayed for the word to sanctify us, how could we do any less than dedicate our lives to the study and application of it? And yet, it’s one thing to read Scripture and to study it because we believe we should. It’s an entirely different matter to do so because we know and believe that we must.

God gave us His word for our benefit. When we read it, the words of life, from the Source of life, abundantly give us life. As the theologian Charles Spurgeon once said, “Nobody ever outgrows Scripture; the book widens and deepens with our years.” He also rightly stated that “within the Scripture there is a balm for every wound, a salve for every sore,” and that “no Scripture is exhausted by a single explanation. The flowers of God’s garden bloom not only double, but sevenfold; they are continually pouring forth fresh fragrance.” A quotation especially relevant here is when he said, “Every promise of Scripture is a writing of God, which may be pleaded before Him with this reasonable request, ‘Do as Thou hast said.’ The Heavenly Father will not break His word to His own child.” And what did He say? He said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5; Deuteronomy 31:6). “And behold,” said Jesus, “I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). His word states that when we are weary and heavy-laden, He will give us rest (Matthew 11:28). The Bible says that “they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

Scripture says “we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37), and that those in Christ will never taste death (John 8:51) nor feel its sting. The Bible says we have strength in Christ and that we can find true contentment in Him. In God’s word, we read that no flame will consume us, nor will any flood overwhelm us. Indeed, we learn in the pages of sacred Scripture that no matter the trial, no matter the valley, our Great Shepherd will get us through.

Scripture tells us that we are made with inherent dignity and value. It lays out the purpose of our existence. It explains the path we walk to glory. We may not understand everything in God’s word, but when it comes to the truths that fuel us to live, we have more than enough to chew on for eons upon eons. As Spurgeon stated, when we open the Bible and read it, we have every right to cry out: “God, do as You have said.” Most importantly, we have every reason to believe that He, indeed, will do the things He has promised in His word.

Paul’s final advice was to read our Bibles — to be planted in the word. And perhaps now it’s not hard to see why. These truths that get us through are found in no other source. Only Scripture contains God’s message to us in that He has loved us with an “everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3). Only the Bible reminds us that, despite inevitable trouble in this world, we can “take heart,” because Jesus has “overcome the world” (John 16:33). In God’s word, dear reader, we find love, joy, peace, goodness, faithfulness, and all the riches of Christ. It’s all there — everything we could ever need.

And it’s in reading of these truths, day and night, that we’re not only equipped for this earthly life, but where we grow in our affection for Christ. It’s where our desire for our true home deepens and matures. It’s where everything around us gets put into its proper perspective. The radiance of God’s glory shines from the pages of His word and illuminates our hearts, minds, and souls to live — to truly live — in the beauty of Him who laid His life down for His sheep.

It’s no wonder Paul’s final counsel before martyrdom was to plant ourselves in Scripture. When all around us fails, when life is simply too much, open the word and allow your Savior to capture your heart all over again. He never changes, and His word never fails. Turn to it and be filled by the well that never runs dry. As Isaiah 40:8 proclaims, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

One of Jesus’s prophesied end-time signs is a great falling away from the truth of God’s word, and we are seeing that happen, particularly with the denominational/institutional churches, including the Catholic Church. I owned and managed Christian Press for thirty-plus years, distributing Christian books to Bible Colleges and Christian Bookshops. Even back then, I was disturbed that most of the Bible Colleges had compromised by accepting evolution and, as a result, no longer accepted the foundational book of the Bible, Genesis, as literal truth, teaching real history about God’s perfect creation, man’s fall into sin, and the promise of a divine saviour.

We are living in the end times, and over two thousand scriptures prophesy Jesus’ second coming. This makes it even more important that you are anchored in Scripture. and are watching for the prophesied signs.

MASSIVE COSMIC STRUCTURES CHALLENGE THE BIG BANG THEORY

Posted on June 23, 2024 by Ron Edwards

Article by Andrew Sibley i Creation Magazine Vol 46, Issue 3

Most stars in the universe are in huge galaxies. Our Milky Way is estimated to contain 100–400 billion stars. It is so wide that even light would take some 90,000 years (under today’s conditions) to travel from one side to the other.. Galaxies are mostly found in groups of galaxies. Above a certain numerical size, these are called galaxy clusters. These clusters can be found within a cluster of clusters, called superclusters. The observable universe is thought to contain some 10 million of these.

There are truly gigantic, unique structures, containing all of the above and dwarfing them in size. Sometimes described as ‘cosmic megastructures’, they are so vast that they seriously challenge standard cosmological theories about the origin and evolution of the universe.

These discoveries run counter to the cosmological principle—the expectation that space would be smooth at the large scale. This principle is a central plank and foundational assumption of all modern secular cosmology, including all versions of the Big Bang. Under standard Big Bang cosmology, including ‘inflation’, the largest structures should be only 0.4 Gly across.

The deputy director of the Royal Astronomical Society, Dr Robert Massey, says it is leading to a major rethink: If these structures are real, then it’s definitely food for thought for cosmologists and the accepted thinking on how the universe has evolved over time.

Cosmologist Jenny Wagner is not yet ready to abandon the cosmological principle. But she agrees it is under threat, stating: Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to abandon the cosmological principle after future discoveries.

Creationist astronomers and physicists have long pointed out that cosmology involves many untestable assumptions, so that the favoured model leads to the preferred interpretation of the data. Instead of the big bang theory, the Bible tells us that the earth was formed out of water, with God stretching out the heavens in a vast expanse (Genesis 1:6-8, Jeremiah 10:12,) 2 Peter 3:5).

“And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.” Genesis 1 :6-8

“For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God,” 2 Peter 3:5

“It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens. When he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,“

Dr Russell Humphreys in the early 1980’s based a theory about the origin of planetary magnetic fields on the basis that the earth and other bodies in the solar system were originally created as pure water. The theory was remarkably successful. Dr Humphrey correctly predicted the Voyager space probe’s measurements of the magnetic fields of the planets Uranus and Neptune. He was the only scientist to do so. The theory could not work with the present elements composing the solar system bodies, but only with water as the original material.

Dr Humphrey proposes that the heavens and earth that God created consisted of 1. a large, mostly empty space, and 2. a ball of water more than two light-years in diameter. This ball of water contained within itself what would become (a) the waters above the expanse, (b) another heavens called the expanse and the stars within it, and (c) the Earth.

FILM: THE ARK AND THE DARKNESS

Posted on March 24, 2024 by Ron Edwards

In an era when biblical narratives are often relegated to the realm of mythology, the “Ark and the Darkness” documentary seeks to reframe one of history’s most debated tales: Noah’s Flood.

“The evidence for the flood is really, really overwhelming,” Dan Biddle, executive producer of “The Ark and The Darkness: Unearthing the Mysteries of Noah’s Flood” and president of Genesis Apologetics, told The Christian Post.

“There are a lot of misconceptions about the flood. Hollywood not only doesn’t represent the true biblical account, they add a lot of mythologies and a lot of themes that are just clearly not biblical. … The two biggest misconceptions would be mythologizing the flood, saying it’s an allegory, it didn’t really happen. The other one that’s actually within Christian circles is, ‘It was just a local flood, God’s judgment was only pertaining to the people living in Mesopotamia Valley.’ … Our movie shows it wasn’t an allegory; it happened in real-time just thousands of years ago, and it was a worldwide event.”

“The Ark and the Darkness,” from Sevenfold Films in collaboration with Genesis Apologetics, bridges the gap between various scientific disciplines — geology, paleontology, the study of fossils, ancient civilizations, volcanic activity, and Earth sciences — all pointing unanimously to the reality of Noah’s Flood.

The documentary features experts, including scientists from Answers in Genesis and Liberty University, like Dr. Andrew Snelling, paleontologist Dr. Gabriela Haynes and researcher and speaker Dr. Terry Mortenson, who uncover the factual basis of Noah’s Flood.

The film hit theaters on Wednesday and Thursday.

Biddle pointed to a variety of scientific findings he said corroborate the biblical account, including the discovery of bioorganic materials in dinosaur bones, which suggests they were buried rapidly and relatively recently.

“There’s no way that these tissues could have lasted for millions upon millions of years,” he said.

The documentary, directed by Ralph Strean, explores the Morrison Formation, a geological site spanning 13 states in the middle of America, which contains a vast number of dinosaur fossils intermingled with marine life.

“How could you take a 13-state zone region and bury land creatures and marine creatures together over that much of an expanse?” Biddle asked. “The answer has to be a worldwide flood.”

Beyond presenting physical evidence, “The Ark and the Darkness” also delves into the implications of Noah’s Flood for understanding the state of the world today. Drawing parallels between the days of Noah and contemporary times, Biddle highlighted a perceived increase in lawlessness and moral decay, echoing biblical prophecies of the End Times.

“We just look around the world today, and it seems like a stage is being set for some interesting things,” he said. “I’m not a doomsayer, I’m not a sensationalist, I’m not even really a prepper. But I would just say that most Christians nowadays can look around the landscape and say, ‘Yeah, there’s a lot of shift going on.’ It’s not a time to be fearful. It’s a time to trust in the Lord, to run in our lanes, and to trust Him for both our short-term lives and what’s going to happen in a longer play. Jesus Himself draws that parallel between the flood and End Times, and so we do the same thing in the movie.”

The film counters evolutionary arguments, suggesting that Noah’s Ark could indeed have housed representatives of all animal kinds necessary to repopulate the Earth post-flood. Biddle challenged the notion that the ark’s capacity would have been insufficient, proposing that only around 7,000 animals were needed to account for the biodiversity seen today.

“One of the most popular allegations is … there’s no way that Noah could have taken all of those different species on Earth today on the ark because there are millions and millions of species. … But that’s one of the things that the Bible addresses straight out of Genesis and chapter one,” he said.

“The experts at Answers in Genesis believe that you only need 7,000 animals total on the ark to reproduce all the different species and all the different breeds that we see today. So that would be one aspect of how we go against evolution theory in the movie,” Biddle added.

Biddle also expressed concern over the growing trend among Christians to interpret the story of Noah’s Flood as allegorical rather than historical.

“We hear a lot of people say they’re just New Testament Christians,” he said. “If that’s true, please explain to me the Gospel without citing Genesis, and no one can do it.”

Biddle stressed that understanding the Gospel’s message of salvation is impossible without acknowledging the reality of sin introduced through Adam in the Garden of Eden. According to Biddle, denying the historical truth of events like Noah’s Flood undermines the entire biblical narrative, including the teachings of Jesus and the writings of New Testament authors who referenced the flood as a factual event.

“It really cripples the Gospel message to say that either the garden or Adam or the flood was a myth,” he said.

Biddle hopes viewers, regardless of their religious or scientific background, reconsider the historical validity of Noah’s Flood.

“I think every person who watches this movie, from a hardened, licensed geologist who’s a complete atheist all the way to a homeschool Christian who believes every word of Scripture, … will be shifted, shifted towards believing more about historic Christianity,” he said. “It would be really hard to sit through an hour and 52 minutes worth of this avalanche of evidence and not come out believing, ‘My gosh, I think they have a case.’ And, we do.”

IS THERE LIFE ON EXO PLANETS?

Posted on November 10, 2023 by Ron Edwards

Is Earth really the only planet in our vast universe that supports life? After all, there are trillions of other stars out there—and the number of planets is likely to be huge! For those who believe that everything created itself by natural processes, this is almost unthinkable. But for those who believe the Bible’s account of origins, it makes perfect sense. The question is, what does the evidence say? Join Dr Mark Harwood (who played a key role in the development of Australia’s national satellite system) for a discussion of exoplanets: What are they? How do astronomers find them? Above all, what would it take for one of them to become a contender to be ‘Earth 2.0’?
