PLANS FOR YOUR GOOD: A PRIME MINISTER’S TESTIMONY OF GOD’S FAITHFULNESS

Plans for Your Good: A Prime Minister’s Testimony of God’s Faithfulness is not a traditional political memoir, but rather it is a recounting of his “spiritual journey” as it intersected with his time as prime minister. This includes the role his faith played during crises like the Covid pandemic, during major decisions such as the AUKUS nuclear submarine pact, and amid political challenges like his accession to the prime ministership at the expense of Malcolm Turnbull. It is a unique blend of the prayer and scriptures that influenced him as prime minister as well as the retelling of selective key moments of his four years as the country’s leader from 2018 to 2022.

Most politicians write books about what they’ve done, this story is about what I believe God has done for me,” says Morrison.

There he is in photos and on television, Scott Morrison, our Prime Minister, in an open-neck shirt, right arm high in the sky, palm forward, eyes closed, swaying in song and prayer, at the Horizon Pentecostal church that he and his family have attended since they moved into Sutherland Shire on Sydney’s southern beaches.

It is a striking image, one we’ve not seen before. Prime ministers at prayer are normally solemn, not to say po-faced, in the front pew of an Anglican or sometimes Catholic cathedral, at the funeral of a fellow politician, or at Christmas or Easter, well dressed in a suit and tie. We rarely see them in their own regular worship. Very few of our nation’s leaders would admit to the following: “There is also repentance I must come to terms with – things I have said, things I could have said better … and some policy decisions I regret.

The terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka remind us that Christianity is the most heavily persecuted religion in the world. The persecution of Christians doesn’t gain the attention it should in mainstream Western media because that media is still in thrall to the idea that Christianity represents a powerful establishment, whereas in most places it is likelier to represent a marginalised people.

It is also the case that Christianity, though in decline in the West, is on fire with new growth and conversions in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

It would be absurd to suggest Christians in Australia face active persecution, but there is an increasing atmosphere of hostility and contempt for Christianity. Yet Morrison, as a frank and open Pentecostal Christian, the first in the world to lead a major developed democracy, may be doing something to change that, at least incrementally, at the margin. Let us do what we can to publicize his book and even purchase copies for selective distribution.

ALFRED DEAKIN’S LIFE AND PRAYERS

How times have changed. Read about a wonderful leader of old. However, know for certain God appoints our leaders and we usually get the leader we deserve, certainly the leader that will fulfill God’s purposes. Even the Antichrist’s appearance will be at God’s appointed time.

Alfred Deakin was Australia’s second prime minister. He was one of two prime ministers who held the position three times from 24 September 1903 to 27 April 1904, 5 July 1905 to 13 November 1908, 2 June 1909 to 29 April 1910 Deakin was a founding father of Federation, along with Edmund Barton.

Older Sir Walter Murdoch - Melbourne Uni

Walter Murdoch (great uncle to Rupert Murdoch of News Corp) was a young man and a journalist for the Argus when he met Alfred Deakin. Deakin was also journalist for the Age during his 20’s.

In 1923, just 4 years after Alfred’s death, Pattie asked Walter to write a biography on her husband. “Alfred Deakin: A Sketch” became a masterpiece of writing. Murdoch who became a close family friend and admirer of Deakin writes:

“Some piece of writing of mine had the good fortune to please him; and it was entirely characteristic of the man that he should at once sit down and write me some generous words of praise; for he was ever the helper and encourager of young men…” “It was impossible to spend a dull moment in his company…he had the power of loosening the tongues of others…men showed themselves at their best in his presence. He understood before you had half finished your sentence… his talk, when at his best, was like sparkling wine. I think his charm as a companion was due not so much to the richness and brilliancy of his talk, but to the fundamental friendliness that shone through what he said, – there was something winning and affectionate in his nature” (page 289 “Alfred Deakin: A Sketch” by Walter Murdoch)

Alfred Deakin’s Prayer No 9

“God grant me the virtue of sincerity and the voice of truth that without fear or falsity I may speak the word and do the deed best for this country and its people. Let me shake off self and ignore success, let me be guided sufficiently to guide others and gifted to perform the most necessary service.”

“To this make my private aims absolutely subordinate and my private life sure and harmonious as a sure pedestal from which I may utter my message. Let this be Thy message and Thy will and grant that as it’s mere mouthpiece I may repeat it without admixture and without regard to the welcome it may procure for me. God help me to help” 13th Feb 1892″

PNG PILLAR OF NATIONAL IDENTITY

Papua New Guinea have approved the construction of a Pillar of National Identity and Unity. It will replace the existing Totem Pole in Parliament House. The words on the pillar are God honouring and hopefully will present a challenge to other nations.

THE COVENANT – Covenant with the true God based on the Christian faith.

THE PEOPLE – We pay homage to the God of the Holy Bible who is our God.

THE CONSTITUTION – Mother Law generated and guided by the Eternal Word of God for the peace, order, and welfare of our people.

THE WORD OF GOD – The foundation, the Eternal Source of Wisdom, Principles and Moral Conscience.

PNG is truly a sheep nation and will be judged by God accordingly at the Sheep/Goat Judgement of nations. (Revelation 20)

The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! Psalms 33:10-12
