BIBLICAL ARCHAEOLOGY PART 1

Can archaeology help show that the Bible is true? This is the first lesson in a new series produced by the Genesis Fund: “Basics of Biblical Archaeology” examines archaeological evidence that relates to the Bible. In Lesson 1, Dr. Doug Petrovich introduces the class and explains the basic elements of Biblical archaeology.

Dr. Douglas Petrovich earned a PhD from the University of Toronto, with a major in Syro-Palestinian archaeology. His research interests include biblical history and exegesis, Egyptology, and ancient Near Eastern history (including archaeology, epigraphy, chronology, and iconography). He teaches Ancient Egypt at Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo, Canada).

FLOODS IMPACTING KENYA HOUSE CHURCH MOVEMENT

I support the Kenya House Church Movement (KHC) in the regional areas of Kenya and have done so for three years. It started in Migori with Pastor Charles Otieno Owino and there are now at least 24 House Church groups. The picture below shows House Church leaders who came together for a three-day meeting when I visited Migori in April 2022. I am the only white man in the picture.

Recently I received the following email from Charles concerning the flood waters that are wreaking havoc in Migori County as reported in The Star Worldwide.

Nine dead, 413 displaced as floods wreak havoc in Migori

At least nine people have been reported dead and more than 400 people displaced as heavy rains and floods continue to wreak havoc in Migori County. “We are on high alert to respond to emergencies in real-time when they happen and we have called on people to move to higher grounds,” Migori county secretary Oscar Olima said.

Email from Charles: The waters have invaded our area from yesterday evening and we have been ordered to move to higher ground.  It is so sad! We have had much nonstop rain, day and night. El Nino rain is a bad companion! Many have died.
We are in great despair but we believe hope will overtake despair and joy will overtake sorrow! There are times when God removes the trouble and gives victory; sometimes He leads us through the trouble to victory.

My prayers and our prayers are that the  Holy Spirit will help us to always see trouble in the light of victory. Victory preventing the crisis is great, but often the victory after the crisis is even greater. However it comes, my eyes are on you, Lord! Amen

Please keep the KHC movement in your prayers for God’s multiplication,  protection, and safety.
I will also pray for you so the Lord makes you fruitful in His harvest fields, and that he may give you effort, and deep insight as you continue to fulfill your commitment to publish millennial teachings and planting house churches in Sydney and in the  other parts of Australia.

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen

Charles has not asked for money but I would like to send funds and know that Charles will distribute any money we send wisely. If you would like to donate you can do so on my Home Page or directly to Charles.

TIM SCOTT CALLED IT RIGHT AT THIRD REPUBLICAN DEBATE

Tim Scott: ‘America does not work without a faith-filled Judeo-Christian foundation’

Scott insisted that “the loss of faith in this nation” has led to the “deep challenges” currently engulfing the U.S.

The South Carolina senator spoke of the importance of “restoring faith, restoring our Christian values that will help this nation once again become the city on the hill.”

He noted how former President Ronald Reagan’s description of the U.S. as a “city on the hill” originated from Matthew 5.

He also cited former President Abraham Lincoln’s warning that “a house divided against itself cannot stand” as a reference to the Gospel of Mark.

“Our founding documents speak to the importance of the faith foundation,” he added. “You don’t have to be a Christian for America to work for you, but America does not work without a faith-filled Judeo-Christian foundation.”

Scott made his pitch to voters as a leader who can help “restore faith in God, faith in each other and faith in our future.” He contends that “without that focus, none of the issues, the policies matter.”

“We have to get back to being a nation that is, in fact, the city on the hill that believes in each other enough for us to fight for that future,” he concluded.

PORNOGRAPHY USED AS A POLITICAL TOOL

Conservative leaders who get busted using pornography is the most effective use of porn as a political tool, as it not only isolates the outed conservative from his typically-not-fond-of-porn voter base but also labels him a hypocrite, as the conservative ideology (and even the Republican Party platform) condemn porn use. But this time around, leftists are taking the newly elected Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson to task for… not watching porn. In the last days, God said they would call good evil and evil good.

That’s right, in a recently-resurfaced video clip, Johnson stated that he uses Covenant Eyes, an online filter and accountability program that blocks porn from laptops and cell phones and sends a designated accountability partner a regular update on websites visited. During a panel discussion entitled “War on Technology” hosted last year at Cypress Baptist Church in Benton, Louisiana, Johnson explained that Covenant Eyes had been suggested to him at a marriage conference called “Promise Keepers.” Conference speakers also suggested fathers sign up their sons once they hit the teenage years and serve as their sons’ accountability partners. Following this advice, Johnson signed up his teenage son for Covenant Eyes and the two have been one another’s accountability partners, receiving daily reports on what websites the other visited. He quipped, “I’m proud to tell you my son has got a clean slate.”

Left-wing media pundits and publications have, predictably, piled on Johnson for his position on porn. The vociferously pro-LGBT outlet “Pink News” wrote, “The revelation is yet another example of Johnson’s conservative views, which include him making a number of anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-abortion statements.” The online magazine also asked, “Should House Speaker Mike Johnson allow third-party surveillance apps on his personal devices?”

The far more mainstream Rolling Stone piled on, “Since he was elected Speaker of the House in October, Johnson’s history as a faith-obsessed, election-denying, far-right Christian nationalist has come under the microscope…” and referred to using porn-blocking and accountability software as “creepy Big Brother-ness…” The “Receipt Maven” Twitter account, which resurfaced the original clip, quipped, “[S]o basically don’t watch porn or your son/dad will know…”

Scientists have often noted that porn use typically progresses into more and more depraved categories. Scientifically, this is because the brain has become so desensitized to the images it sees that, in order to produce the dopamine the porn addict seeks, more extreme imagery must be viewed. In his novel “That Hideous Strength,” the great Christian author C.S. Lewis described this depraved progression of lust:

“It is idle to point out to the perverted man the horror of his perversion: while the fierce fit is on, that horror is the very spice of his craving. It is ugliness itself that becomes, in the end, the goal of his lechery; beauty has long since grown too weak a stimulant.”

Spiritually, this seeking out of the more and more depraved, the more and more perverse is even more startling. As most Christians know, virtue is the bending of one’s own will to align with God’s. Those whom we consider holiest, noblest, and most saintly are those whose wills are so in accord with God’s that there is little discernible difference. Cultivating such virtue, of course, is an arduous and even a lifelong task — it is no mere matter of wishing or wanting, and its demands are often high. The martyrs are prime examples of this: from Peter and Paul to Maximilian Kolbe and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the ardently virtuous offer their wills to God so completely that their very lives come along with them. Although all are, of course, made in the image and likeness of God, the virtuous are those who clarify that image and let it shine forth, brightly and colorfully.

Conversely, those who live according to vice turn away from the image of God and remake themselves in the image of Hell. They bend their wills so far away from God’s own that they actually run in the opposite direction. Pornography is a horrifically illustrative example of this principle.

CHRIST’S LOVE THROUGH GOSPEL MUSIC

GOD IS USING THE MOST UNLIKELY PEOPLE FOR HIS PURPOSES: This young man from Kenya (just turned 18) has impacted America’s Got Talent in an amazing way by singing Gospel music.

Johge – you are an absolute child of God – blessed with a voice that stands out in Speech & Song for His Glory!!! May His many blessings continue to flow to you and through you to those of us who have ears to hear!

GOD RAISES UP THOSE IN AUTHORITY

There is no doubt that God is in control of history. Nothing happens in the Cosmos He created that He does not initiate or allow. However, often God allows people to elect the leader they want so they get what they deserve. Gay marriage, destruction of the family, etc.

By a slim majority, the Republicans have elected Mike Johnson, a devout Christian as House speaker, and in his opening speech, he spoke strongly about His belief that God is in control of history.

A devout Baptist, Johnson said that he does not “believe there are any coincidences in a matter like this,” saying that “the Bible is very clear that God is the One that raises up those in authority.”

“He raised up each of you, all of us,” Johnson said to his Republican and Democrat colleagues. “I believe that God has ordained and allowed each one of us to be brought here for this specific moment and this time.”

“This is my belief. I believe that each one of us has a huge responsibility today to use the gifts that God has given us to serve the extraordinary people of this great country and they deserve it.”

Johnson said God called Congress to help “ensure that our Republic remains standing as the great beacon of light and hope and freedom in a world that desperately needs it.”

Johnson spoke about the national motto “In God We Trust” and how the words were placed in the House chamber as a conscious rejection of communism during the Cold War.

He stressed the value of the Declaration of Independence and its statement that “all men are created equal” by God, quoting Christian writer and apologist G.K. Chesterton, who once said that “America is the only nation in the world that is founded on a creed.”

Johnson said that while he believes that right now is “a very dangerous time” and “the world is in turmoil,” he declared that “a strong America is good for the entire world.” “We are the beacon of freedom, and we must preserve this grand experiment in self-governance,” he said. “We’re only 247 years into this grand experiment; we don’t know how long it will last.” “We are in a time of extraordinary crisis right now, and the world needs us to be strong; they need us to remember our creed and our admonition.”

Johnson touched on the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, vowing that “the first bill that I’m going to bring to this floor in just a little while, will be in support of our dear friend, Israel.” “We’re going to show not only Israel but the entire world that the barbarism of Hamas that we have all seen play out in our television screens is wretched and wrong,” he said. “We are going to stand for the good in that conflict.”

He also spoke of the dangers presented by the wave of illegal immigration and the ongoing fentanyl crisis, declaring that “we must come together and address the broken border.”

Johnson acknowledged that Americans “live in a time of bitter partisanship” and “it has been on display here today” in the House of Representatives. “When our people are losing their faith in government when they are losing sight of the principles that made us the greatest nation in the history of the world, I think we’ve got to be mindful of that,” Johnson said.

“We’re going to fight; we’re going to fight vigorously over our core principles because they are at odds a lot of times now in this modern era. We have to sacrifice, sometimes our preferences, because that’s what’s necessary in a legislative body.”

Johnson noted that while “we will defend our core principles to the end,” noting that he considered the “core principles of American conservatism” to actually be “the core principles of our nation.”

“I boil them down to individual freedom, limited government, the rule of law, peace through strength, fiscal responsibility, free markets, and human dignity,” Johnson listed.

“Those are the foundations that made us the extraordinary nation that we are, and you and I today are the stewards of those principles.”

Knowing what the Bible has prophesied about the days we are living in, I doubt Mike Johnson will be able to change the trajectory of the USA as it continues to cast God out of all aspects of its life. Nevertheless, in His opening speech, he challenged the government’s representatives about the consequences of their decisions before God.

DNA DESTROYS EVOLUTION

DNA must have been created. It is impossible it evolved. It is the instruction code for all living things.

Science continues to reveal more complexity at the smallest levels of life. As a result, the evolutionary account of life’s origins is rapidly trending toward mythology. May God receive the glory for His incredible creation!

Moreover, Jesus Christ changed history from BC to AD. No other person in history has impacted the world as this God/man did. Jesus confirmed the Torah as God’s Word revealed to man by His prophets.

Jesus said to him, if they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’” Luke 16:31

The Bible gives us an accurate history of this world. Creation by God in six days was a real event. The Fall of man was a real event that brought death into this world. The worldwide flood of Noah’s day that killed all mankind except eight people (God’s judgement on a world in rebellion against Him) was a real event. It buried millions of dead things all over the world, fossils and produced all the fossil fuels not billions of years. The world is just 6000 years old. God created the nations when He confused the languages at the Tower of Babel. Jesus entered history to provide a way back into a right relationship with our Heavenly Father. He paid the price for our rebellion, He died that we might live. The Bible also tells us that Jesus is returning soon to rule and reign for the last 1000 years before God destroys this Earth and creates a new Earth where only the righteous dwell.

I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

What a loving God (but also Holy God) that we have that He would send His ony Son to redeem us. And how good is Jesus, God’s Son that He would come to die in our place. God requires us to repent of our rebellion against Him and His commandments and accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour to come back into His family. It’s an offer of eternal life. It is beyond me why people do not want to get back into a right relationship with their Creator and experience this new eternal life in Christ. What about you?

“CHRIST THE KING” PLATFORM OF PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

Taylor Marshall, a traditionalist Catholic podcast host, announced his presidential campaign in a Facebook video. He is running in support of an unapologetic socially conservative agenda, which he billed as a “Christ the King” platform.

“I think we need a candidate who comes out and says abortion should be illegal, no-fault divorce should be illegal, contraception should be illegal,” he said. “We need a Christian culture in America. We don’t need secularism. We don’t need a strict separation of church and state. We need a candidate who’s going to say that. No one on the Republican GOP ticket’s ever going to say that. So I’m going to run and I’m going to say all those things and we’ll see what happens.”

Sadly, we know that America is way past accepting Jesus as King. However, we do know that Jesus will be King of this World. Biblical prophecy gives us the end of the story for God’s world. Jesus will rule the nations of the world after He returns to earth with the glorified Saints to save Israel at the battle of Armageddon.

The sixth angel poured out his bowl (Wrath of God) on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east. And I saw, coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs. For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty... And they assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.Revelation 16:12-14, 16

And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.Revelation 19:19-21

Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also, I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.Revelation 20:4-6

REJOICE FOR THE MARRIAGE SUPPER OF THE LAMB IS COMING

All of the Jewish Feasts have end times prophetic meaning. What about the Feast of Tabernacles? Is there a connection between the 70 Week of Daniel and the Feast of Tabernacles? Nelson thinks so. Listen to this video and you will be blessed by what you learn about what God has in store for all of His children.

On timing of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb this is the response I got from ChatGPT: “In general, it is understood as a future, eschatological event, signifying the culmination of history and the eternal union of Christ with his redeemed followers. The timing of this event is not explicitly stated in the Bible, so there is no consensus on when it will occur. Some Christians believe it will happen after the Second Coming of Christ, while others may hold different views.”

Only a born again believer who understands that the Holy Spirit is his Teacher and Counsellor will correctly decipher all of the end times prophecies. I believe Nelson Walters is a believer who has been challenged by God to alert his brothers and sisters in Christ to these end times prophecies and the tribulation that God has ordained for the last seven years prior to Jesus return. Christians will not face the wrath of God which is poured out with the Trumpet and Bowl judgements but they will face persecution when God refines His church.

IN TIMES OF TRIAL, WHAT IS YOUR FOCUS?

The letter to the Hebrews was written to encourage Christians in times of trial. Considering the increasing persecution of Christians even in the West it is helpful to look at what it teaches.

It does so by focusing on the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ. While God spoke in the past “many times and in many ways,” he has now spoken to us “through his Son,” Jesus Christ, who is the “exact imprint” of God’s nature and who “upholds the universe by the word of his power” (Hebrews 1:1-3). Jesus accomplished complete salvation for all who trust in him (Hebrews 1:1–10:18). We dare not “neglect such a great salvation” (Hebrews 2:3; 5:12–6:20; 10:19-39). Rather, in our faith and in our everyday living, we should imitate the example of Christ and of those on the honor roll of faith (Hebrews chapts.11–13).

In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

WARNING AGAINST APOSTASY

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.Hebrews 4:14-16

The following Scripture gives us a sobering message.
”Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.Hebrews 6:1-6

Jesus made it possible for our Heavenly Father to send the Holy Spirit to indwell the spirit of every believer to be their Counsellor, Teacher, and Comforter. The Holy Spirit enables us to live the Christian life as long as we say, as Jesus did, not my will but yours be done today and every day. We are told that we can grieve the Holy Spirit and quench His work in our lives. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, gentleness, goodness, kindness, and self-control. If these are not evident in your life then you are grieving the Holy Spirit and you need to get on your knees and repent.

We are in the prophesied last days before Jesus returns and restores righteousness on this Earth and ushers in His Millennial reign. Probably the most significant end times prophecy was Israel being re-established as a nation in 1948. The spiritual battle then escalated. Israel is surrounded by hostile nations intent on its destruction. Just look at the intensity and horrific nature of the recent attack by Hamas with over 1000 Israelis killed and 2000 injured. As well, many Israeli women and children have been taken hostage. As a result, Netanyahu has declared the nation is at war. Wars and rumours of wars are end times signs as are earthquakes.

And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.” Matthew 24:6-8

A magnitude-6.3 earthquake and strong aftershocks have killed more than 2,000 people in western Afghanistan, according to Taliban officials. It’s one of the deadliest earthquakes to strike the country in two decades.
