WHY JESUS COMES A SECOND TIME

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.Hebrews 9:27-28

This verse clearly explains the purposes of Jesus two comings to planet Earth, first to deal with the sin problem and the second to save all of those eagerly waiting for Him. But there is also unfulfilled business with the nation God established for His purposes, Israel.

There are about three hundred Biblical prophecies of Jesus first coming but there are about two thousand prophecies of Jesus second coming and Jesus and the glorified Saints ruling and reigning over the nations during Jesus Millennial Kingdom. This makes it clear that God wants us to know and be prepared for Jesus second coming. In Jesus Olivet Discourse he gives us a great deal of information about the tribulation, even great tribulation that Christians will experience as Satan does His utmost to thwart God’s plans.

As he (Jesus) sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Matthew 24:3

And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.
“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Matthew 24:4-14

When God established Israel as His nation He did it through one man, Abraham and the covenant He made with Abraham and confirmed with His sons Isaac and Jacob has not been fulfilled as yet. Moreover, beginning with Moses, all the OT prophets were shown the end of Israel’s story: Israel will be the lead nation of the world with their Messiah ruling and reigning over all the nations.

Moses told the nation before they went into the promised land that God would drive them out and scatter them for disobedience:

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that you will soon utterly perish from the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess. You will not live long in it, but will be utterly destroyed. And the Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the Lord will drive you.Deuteronomy 4:26-27

But God also revealed to them that He would regather them in the last days back to their land which He did in 1948. This was the first of the major prophesied Biblical end times signs.

But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in tribulation, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the Lord your God and obey his voice. For the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.Deuteronomy 4:29-31

THE REVELATION OF THE END TIMES/THE LAST DAYS

Jonathan Cahn unveils how the Bible speaks of prophetic times known as the ‘Last Days,’ the ‘End Times,’the End of Days.’ Remarkably, it begins with Moses in Revelation. Before the Jews went into the Promised Land, Moses told them their entire history.

And the Lord will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other, and there you shall serve other gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known. And among these nations you shall find no respite, and there shall be no resting place for the sole of your foot, but the Lord will give you there a trembling heart and failing eyes and a languishing soul.Deuteronomy 28:54-65

And when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you, and return to the Lord your God, you and your children, and obey his voice in all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your soul, then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have mercy on you, and he will gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you.Deuteronomy 30:1-3

And the Lord your God will bring you into the land that your fathers possessed, that you may possess it. And he will make you more prosperous and numerous than your fathers. And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. And the Lord your God will put all these curses on your foes and enemies who persecuted you.Deuteronomy 30:5-7

Jonathan shows us that all the old testament prophets were shown the victorious end of Israel’s story with their Messiah ruling the nations of the world from a magnificent new Jerusalem. We find incredible detail (8 chapters) of the new temple in Ezekiel 40-48. The numerous details provided on Ezekiel’s temple require that they be taken seriously. The exact measurements and detail by detail instruction are nothing like portions of Scripture that are to be understood symbolically

The curse is not lifted so people will still being born, sin and die, hence the need to rule with a rod of iron.

ISRAEL’S CENTRAL ROLE IN THE END TIMES

Have you heard Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu’s speech to the United Nations? It was incredible on so many levels. It showed that Israel was living in continuation of the Israel of Scripture. We know that to be true, but it was fascinating to hear it shared on such an elevated platform at such a pivotal historical time.

We must remember the blessing that Moses, the man of God, gave the Israelites before his death.

The God of old is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He drives out the enemy before you and commands, “Destroy!” So Israel dwells securely; Jacob lives untroubled in a land of grain and new wine; even his skies drip with dew. How happy you are, Israel!
Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord? He is the shield that protects you, the sword you boast in.
Your enemies will cringe before you, and you will tread on their backs.
Deuteronomy 33:27-29

Moses also said they would be cursed and scattered throughout the Earth through disobedience.

And the Lord will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other, and there you shall serve other gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known. And among these nations you shall find no respite, and there shall be no resting place for the sole of your foot, but the Lord will give you there a trembling heart and failing eyes and a languishing soul.Deuteronomy 28:64-65

This prophecy was fulfilled and so will the next one. Moses told them the end of their story: God would gather them from the ends of the Earth to be His nation again.

And when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you, and return to the Lord your God, you and your children, and obey his voice in all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your soul, then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have mercy on you, and he will gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you.” Deuteronomy 30:1-3

Netanyahu did not share these Scriptures with the U.N. perhaps he should have.

Two of Netanyahu’s quotes that jumped out to me were these: In the first quote, he shared how the continuation of Israel’s government goes back to what we find in Samuel, Chronicles, and Kings.

Ladies and gentlemen, King Solomon, who reigned in our eternal capital, Jerusalem, 3,000 years ago, proclaimed something that is familiar to all of you. He said: There is nothing new under the sun.

The second showed the continuation of God’s covenant with Abraham and its confirmation in the time of Moses.

When I spoke here last year, I said we face the same timeless choice that Moses put before the people of Israel thousands of years ago, as we were about to enter the Promised Land. Moses told us that our actions would determine whether we bequeath a blessing or a curse to future generations. And that is the choice we face today: the curse of Iran’s unremitting aggression or the blessing of historic reconciliation between Arab and Jew. In the days that followed that speech, the blessing I spoke of came into sharper focus.

Incredible times we are living in. We’re living in the Epic Story of Truth.
