Upsurge in big earthquakes predicted for 2018 as Earth rotation slows

Scientists say number of severe quakes is likely to rise strongly next year because of a periodic slowing of the Earth’s rotation

The link between Earth’s rotation and seismic activity was highlighted last month in a paper by Roger Bilham of the University of Colorado in Boulder and Rebecca Bendick of the University of Montana in Missoula presented at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America.

“The correlation between Earth’s rotation and earthquake activity is strong and suggests there is going to be an increase in numbers of intense earthquakes next year,” Bilham told the Observer last week.

In their study, Bilham and Bendick looked at earthquakes of magnitude 7 and greater that had occurred since 1900. “Major earthquakes have been well recorded for more than a century and that gives us a good record to study,” said Bilham.

They found five periods when there had been significantly higher numbers of large earthquakes compared with other times. “In these periods, there were between 25 to 30 intense earthquakes a year,” said Bilham. “The rest of the time the average figure was around 15 major earthquakes a year.”

Bilham and Bendick found that there had been periods of around five years when Earth’s rotation slowed by such an amount several times over the past century and a half. Crucially, these periods were followed by periods when the numbers of intense earthquakes increased.

“It is straightforward,” said Bilham. “The Earth is offering us a five-year heads-up on future earthquakes.”

This link is particularly important because Earth’s rotation began one of its periodic slowdowns more than four years ago. “The inference is clear,” said Bilham. “Next year we should see a significant increase in numbers of severe earthquakes. We have had it easy this year. So far we have only had about six severe earthquakes. We could easily have 20 a year starting in 2018.”

In addition, it is difficult to predict where these extra earthquakes will occur – although Bilham said they found that most of the intense earthquakes that responded to changes in day length seemed to occur near the equator. About one billion people live in the Earth’s tropical regions.

PROPHECY IN THE LAST DAYS

Listen to Messianic Jew Asher Intrater expound on prophecy in these last days. He is the founder and apostolic leader of Revive Israel Ministries and oversees Ahavat Yeshua congregation in Jerusalem and Tiferet Yeshua congregation in Tel Aviv.

The concept of prophecy developed in stages throughout the Scriptures. The early patriarchs had many, direct prophetic encounters with God. Then Moses brought the prophetic experience to a higher level and became the “father” of the prophets. Moses prayed for all the people of God to be able to prophesy and receive the Holy Spirit (Num. 11:29), but this prayer was only answered at the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost/Shavuot.

Moses’ prophecies reached a height at the end of his life in the last chapters of Deuteronomy–hinting at almost everything that we have in the rest of the Bible, even to the end of the book of Revelation. In fact, the idea that all the people of Israel would be saved in the end times, and that this would come about by the “fullness” of the gentile nations “provoking them to jealousy,” finds its first mention here, calling Israel “a people saved” (Deut. 32:20-2133:29Rom. 10:1911:1125-26).

When the children of Israel came into the Promised Land, the early prophets (Samuel through Elisha) spoke primarily concerning David’s kingdom. They believed that the kingdom of God was the kingdom of David. After several hundred years, the prophets realized there was something fundamentally wrong, because David’s sons kept falling into sin and idolatry. A turning point occurred when King Uzziah died, and Isaiah had a vision of a glorious divine king (Isa. 6:1-6John 12:40-41). From that time forward, the prophets then began to speak of the “Messiah” on a higher level.

Yeshua is revealed as that King-Messiah in the Gospels. After Yeshua was crucified, resurrected, and ascended, God began pouring out the Holy Spirit on all who would believe (Acts 2:1-4, 17), both Jew and Gentile Thus the prophetic gifts and revelations were made available to all in the New Covenant Church or “ecclesia” (1 Cor. 14:2631)

Now we are coming into the last stage of biblical prophecy, the prophecy of the end times. This new stage of prophecy is a consummation of both Israelite and church prophecy. If the prophecies of restoration for the nation of Israel are one “eye,” and the prophecies of the “fullness” of the worldwide ecclesia are the other “eye,” then it is time to open both eyes!! This could only happen after a 2,000-year history in which now the Messianic remnant in Israel and the international ecclesia are both coming into their “fullness” (Rom. 11:121525).

The prophet Isaiah said: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor” (Isa. 61:1).

Yeshua quoted this verse in the gospel of Luke. The second verse in Isaiah 61 states “to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” In the gospels, the quote ends here. In Isaiah, the verse goes on to say, “(to proclaim) the day of vengeance of our God.”

The first part of the prophecy had to do with Yeshua’s message of grace and salvation, which began at that time, but the “day of vengeance” was to come much later in the end times. It will occur at the second coming of Yeshua during a time of judgment and war. Yeshua will lead an army from heaven to destroy the wicked, drive demons off the planet, raise the dead, and set up His kingdom. “The kingdoms of the world have become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever’ (Rev. 11:15).

Biblical “prophecy” today includes sharing the gospel, encouraging the church, the restoration of Israel and also confronting the nations with the soon coming kingdom: “The king is returning to take back the kingdoms of this world.” This type of prophecy was not fully possible until our generation. I believe God is offering a “double” prophetic anointing to enable us to speak of God’s destiny for Israel, the church and the nations in these end times.

IS THERE PROPHETIC MEANING IN ISRAEL’S 70TH BIRTHDAY?

Report by Israeli Messianic Jewish Communicator Ron Cantor who is host of “Out of Zion” on God TV.

President Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s eternal capital and pledged to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on Israel’s 70th anniversary, May 14. Many prophetic voices have called him a type of Cyrus.

Just after Israel celebrated 50 years of a united Jerusalem (1967 Six-Day War – 2017), about 12 different Israeli ministries were planning a major outreach with American evangelists Todd White, Tom Ruotolo and Robbie Dawkins, who move in healing and prophecy. During this 70th year, they carried it out.

Last week, they had more than 200 people on the streets of Jerusalem, not only preaching the good news of Yeshua, but also praying for sick and seeing them healed. There were many who had words of knowledge regarding sicknesses and family members in need. Several Israelis prayed to receive Yeshua.

Israeli believers found a boldness they had never known. One of them said that he moved to Israel more than 20 years ago and has always been paralyzed with fear. However, this week, he and his team boldly shared the gospel. He went to one of his clients with his team and the client was in severe back pain. This man was instantly healed and then told all his employees to come receive prayer, and they were healed.

As far as I know, this was the largest outreach of prophetic/healing evangelism in Jerusalem since the very first believers. And it happened just as we are approaching the 70th anniversary of the rebirth of Israel as a nation.

In John 4, Yeshua leaves the Jews of Jerusalem to go reach the Jews of the Galilee. Yet, on the way, he purposely goes through gentile Samaria. Now I know some people teach that Samaritans were half Jews, but they were not. Yes, some intermarried with Israelites, but they came from the Assyrian kingdom after the 10 northern tribes were conquered. In effect, Yeshua leaves the Israelite population—brings revival to a Samaritan town and stays with them for two days—and then returns to the Jews in the Galilee.

Peter tells us that, “With the Lord a day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (2 Pet. 3:8) The Lord spent two days with the gentiles, or symbolically 2,000 years. But then, He returns to Galilee, and while they had rejected Him in the past, it says they welcomed Him (John 4:45).

Prophetic Meaning

Could this be foreshadowing that Yeshua would begin with the Jews, but then focus on the gospel going forth into all nations for 2,000 years, and then come back to the Jewish people, who will welcome Him? Yes, because this is exactly what Scripture says!

Yeshua tells the Jews of Jerusalem, “For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'” In Hebrew, this phrase, “Blessed is he who comes,” is how we greet people, even today. Yeshua is saying, “Until you—the Jewish people—welcome me, I will not return.”

Furthermore, we have this promise in Romans 11 that tells us only after a massive Gentile harvest, will revival come to Israel.

“For I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, lest you be wise in your own estimation, for a partial hardening has come upon Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved.” (Rom.11:25-26).

He calls this revelation a mystery and warns them that they could miss it because of pride over Israel (Rom. 11:19-21). And here is the mystery: We are approaching or have already approached the fullness of the nations. Now it is time for Jewish harvest, even as Israel celebrates her 70th birthday since rebirth. It is time for the eyes of the Jewish people to be opened to her Messiah.

Hallelujah! God is the author of the times and dates, and He has woven a beautiful mosaic that will result in a great harvest in Israel and in the nations.

ESCALATION OF HOSTILITY -Turkish President: ‘Netanyahu is a terrorist, Israel is a terrorist state’

Erdogan attacked Israel as “a terrorist state,” notwithstanding the widespread condemnation he has faced over the mounting death toll of Kurds killed by Turkish forces.

Turkish President: ‘Netanyahu is a terrorist, Israel is a terrorist state’

After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday over harsh criticism of Israel’s handling of violent rioting in Gaza, Erdogan shot back with a number of insults aimed at the head of the Jewish state.

Erdogan’s comments were apparently prompted by Netanyahu’s observation that the Turkish leader “is not used to being talked back to” or accustomed to being confronted for “occupying North Cyprus, invading the Kurdish belt and butchering civilians in Afrin.” Netanyahu warned Erdogan that with a record such as this, he “should not preach to us about values and morality.”

When you consider this escalation of hostility with the following report, you realise how it ties in with last days wars prophesied in God’s Word.

Dec. 12, 2017, ahead of the summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, the Turkish daily Yeni Şafak, which is close to President Recep Tayyip, says, Erdoğan and his ruling AKP party, published an article  given in “A Call for Urgent Action,” which also appeared on the paper’s website under the title “What If an Army of Islam Was Formed Against Israel?”

PROPHECY WATCH: 57 Muslim nations urged to besiege Israel

The article called on the 57 member states of the OIC to form a joint “Army of Islam” to besiege and attack the state of Israel. It notes that such a joint army will greatly exceed the Israeli army in manpower, equipment and budget, and presents statistics to prove this. I have already covered this article in a recent post:

“LAST DAYS” BIBLE PROPHECY – SURROUNDING ARABIC NATIONS WILL ATTACK ISRAEL

It is time we returned to church as described in the Book of Acts: “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine (God’s Word) and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and prayers.” Acts 2:42

BIBLICAL PROPHECIES FULFILLED IN 2017?

Could Trump be the Cyrus of our time, to be used by God “though you do not know Me”.

Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before him and to loose the belts of kings, to open doors before him that gates may not be closed: “I will go before you and level the exalted places…..For the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my chosen, I call you by your name, I name you, though you do not know me.” Isaiah 45:1-4

The world went into a turmoil when US President Donald Trump became the first sitting American president to visit the Kotel (Western Wall), raising the hopes of the Jewish people that a Second Temple reenactment may yet be seen in this generation. President Trump’s unwavering support for Jewish national aspirations linked him to Persian King Cyrus, whose connection to the Messiah is found in the Book of Isaiah. Much like Cyrus, Trump rules the greatest nation of the era and Cyrus, like Trump, was powerful and rich, but secular.

United Nations voted against Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

“Behold, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding peoples.” (Zechariah 12:2).

The final weeks of the 2017, countless countries in the United Nations voted against President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the home of the future American embassy. Could this be at least a partial fulfilment of this prophecy in Zechariah?

While the vote was an attempt by Israel’s enemies to “put Jerusalem under siege” and “isolate the city,” similar to what occurred with the destruction of Solomon’s Temple and the Babylonian Exile, Rabbi Apisdorf told Breaking Israel News, “The seeds of Messiah were hidden, planted in the destruction of the Temple.”  Likewise, he said, “This seems like a blow to Israel, but what is really happening is that the world is focused on the relationship of the Jewish people to Jerusalem, and only good things can come out of that.”

In Gathering of Exiles

Then they shall know that I am the Lord their God, because I sent them into exile among the nations and then assembled them into their own land. I will leave none of them remaining among the nations anymore. And I will not hide my face anymore from them, when I pour out my Spirit upon the house of Israel, declares the Lord God.” Ezekiel 39:28

The year 2017 was a powerful year for immigration to Israel. As prophesied in the Bible, exile were returning to the land God promised to Abraham. Population statistics showed an increase of immigration with 28,400 immigrants making aliyah to Israel in 2017. New olim included Jews from four corners of the earth: 1,200 Ethiopian Jews, Bnei Menashe, Ukrainian Jews, Indian Jews, French Jews, American Jews, and many more.

Sunni-Shia Divides

“He (Ishmael) shall be a wild ass of a man; his hand against everyone, And everyone’s hand against him; he shall dwell alongside of all his kinsmen” (Genesis 16:12).
In Daniel 8 there is a prophecy of a ram (Iran) charged from Susa west (Iraq, Syria and Lebanon), north ( and south (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait). Also an 800-year old prophecy in the ancient holy book of Yalkut Shimoni declares that when the King of Persia (Iran) will provoke the King of Arabia (Saudi Arabia), redemption is around the corner. As the descendants of Ishmael, war dominates the relations between brethren in the Arab world. Iran (Shia) and Saudi Arabia (Sunni) have not seen peace for decades and this past year demonstrated an even greater struggle for regional dominance rooted in the Sunni-Shia divide.

“END TIMES” SIGN – ECONOMIC COLLAPSE

The only other times in U.S. history when stock prices have been this high relative to earnings, a horrifying stock market crash has always followed.  Will things be different for us this time?  We shall see, but without a doubt this is what a pre-crash market looks like.  This current bubble has been based on irrational euphoria that has been fuelled by relentless central bank intervention, but now global central banks are removing the artificial life support in unison.  Meanwhile, the real economy continues to stumble along very unevenly.  This is the longest that the U.S. has ever gone without a year in which the economy grew by at least 3 percent, and many believe that the next recession is very close.  Stock prices cannot stay completely disconnected from economic reality forever, and once the bubble bursts the pain is going to be unlike anything that we have ever seen before.

If you think that these ridiculously absurd stock prices are sustainable, there is something that I would like for you to consider.  The only times in our history when the cyclically-adjusted return on stocks has been lower, a nightmarish stock market crash happened soon thereafter

The Nobel-Laureate, Robert Shiller, developed the cyclically-adjusted price/earnings ratio, the so-called CAPE, to assess whether stocks are likely to be over- or under-valued. It is possible to invert this measure to obtain a cyclically-adjusted earnings yield which allows one to measure prospective real returns. If one does this, the answer for the US is that the cyclically-adjusted return is now down to 3.4 percent. The only times it has been lower were in 1929 and between 1997 and 2001, the two biggest stock market bubbles since 1880. We know now what happened then. Is it going to be different this time?  This insane bubble has been almost entirely fuelled by central bank manipulation, and now that manipulation is being dramatically scaled back. And the guys on Wall Street know what is coming.

This bubble has lasted for much longer than it ever should have, and everyone understands that a day of reckoning is coming.

In case you don’t remember, in 1987 we witnessed the largest one day percentage decline in U.S. stock market history.

When it finally happens, millions upon millions of ordinary Americans will be completely shocked, but most insiders know that the other shoe is going to drop at some point.

In particular, watch financial stock prices very closely.  Last month, Richard Bove issued a chilling warning about bank stocks…

The Vertical Group’s, Richard Bove warns that the overall market is just as dangerous as the late 1990s, and he cites momentum — not fundamentals — as what’s driving bank stocks to all-time highs.

“If we don’t get some event in the economy or in politics or in somewhere that is going to create more loan volume and better margins for the banks, then yes, they would come crashing down,” Bove said Monday on CNBC’s “Trading Nation.” “I think that the risk in these stocks is very high at the present time.”

It isn’t going to take much to set off an unstoppable chain of events.  Our financial markets are even more vulnerable than they were in 2008, and the right trigger could unleash a crisis unlike anything we have ever seen in modern American history.

NATION OF ISRAEL IS SURROUNDED BY HOSTILE, VIOLENT ENEMIES

The nation of Israel is surrounded by hostile, violent enemies on all sides, just as God’s word said it would be in the last days.

Longtime friends and allies of Israel – including major political groups, Western companies, universities, liberal Christian denominations, and other organisations – are abandoning their once steadfast support of the Jewish people.

Such blindness is astounding, as today’s world is becoming ever more dangerous – and Israel’s people face great jeopardy every single day!

Listen to our brother Amir, give us an update on what is happening right now in Israel on Amir’s LIVE special report on the intercepted Russian drone and the newly built Iranian base in Syria.

Can I suggest you also watch Amir’s special Middle East current events update on Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iran, Emmanuel Macron, George Soros and more.

Now more than ever, Israel needs a discerning friend like you to be a “Watchman on the Wall.”

HAMAS TO TRUMP: ” WHEN WE WILL WIPE OUT ISRAEL”

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, in a round-table discussion with youth in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, slammed the Trump administration’s demand that it renounce terror and recognise the Jewish state.

Rather than considering recognition of the Jewish State, “the discussion now is about when we will wipe out Israel,” the Hamas leader affirmed in comments directed to President Trump.

Rather than considering peace negotiations, “the discussion now is about when we will wipe out Israel,” he declared, according to the Hamas-linked news agency Shehab, Times of Israel reported.

“No one in the universe can disarm us. On the contrary, we will continue to have the power to protect our citizens,” Sinwar asserted. “No one has the ability to extract from us recognition of the occupation.”

Sinwar’s bellicose remarks were made in response to a statement by US Special Mideast Envoy Jason Greenblatt– following the reconciliation agreement between Hamas and Fatah, the ruling party of the Palestinian Authority (PA) – that Hamas must renounce terror and commit to peace negotiations with Israel.

ISIS is re-gathering in the Egyptian Sinai Desert and joining forces with Hamas after losing their position in Syria. Now, with the recent Hamas and Palestinian Authority reconciliation this means Abbas is now joining forces with Hamas in Gaza and accepting their ‘destroy Israel’ ideology … When you put that together with the fact that Hamas is now with the PA and working with ISIS in the Sinai on Israel s southern border, the situation for Israel just got much more serious.

Hence, Israel is preparing for a coming war with Hezbollah, Hamas, Iran, and Syria as they are rapidly building up their forces along the Israeli, Syrian and Lebanese borders.

The news that Hamas was finally submitting to Palestinian Authority in Gaza is HUGE, for now the last stumbling block preventing a unified Palestinian front has been removed.

The annihilation prophecy of Obadiah and Isaiah 34 continues to slowly grind forward.

What we see being played out in the Middle East is exactly what is prophesied for the “end times”. Israel is once again centre stage in the spiritual battle being raged between Satan and his demons and God and His angels.

PERSECUTION, WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS IN THE END TIMES

Somalia Suffers Worst Terrorist Attack in its History: 276 Have been Killed.

At least 276 people have died in a deadly bomb attack on Saturday in what is being called Somalia’s worst terrorist attack in the country’s history.

Somalia Suffers Worst Terrorist Attack in its History: 276 Have been Killed

BBC News reports that the massive bombing occurred in a busy part of Mogadishu, the country’s capital. No group has yet taken responsibility for the attack, although the al-Shabaab terrorist group is known for targeting the region.

Only 111 of the dead have been identified by family members. One hundred sixty-five others will be given a national mass funeral and buried by the government.

Heartbreaking stories have been emerging from Somalia in the wake of the bombing. One victim, Maryam Abdullahi, had been in medical school and was due to graduate the day after the bombing took place.

Maryam’s father had flown to Mogadishu to celebrate her graduation, but instead ended up mourning her death.

“The family is so shocked, especially our father who travelled all the way from London to attend her graduation, but instead he attended her burial,” said Maryam’s sister, Anfa’a.

Witnesses and survivors of the attack say it was unlike anything they’ve ever seen. Local resident Muhidin Ali said it was “the biggest blast I have ever witnessed, it destroyed the whole area.”

“What happened yesterday was incredible, I have never seen such a thing before, and countless people lost their lives. Corpses were burned beyond recognition,” added Mohamed Yusuf Hassan, the director of the Madina Hospital in Mogadishu.

Are Coptic Christians Celebrating the Martyrdom of Their People Too Much?

Are Coptic Christians Celebrating the Martyrdom of Their People Too Much?

The 2,000-year-old Coptic Church of Egypt has a long tradition of hallowing those who died affirming their faith in the face of violence.

But the group that calls itself the Islamic State has launched waves of attacks on the Coptic community in recent years – claiming at least 70 lives and wounding scores of others – an unrelenting assault that has opened a debate in the community about martyrdom.

The issue has been most recently punctuated by the deadly knifing of a Coptic priest in a poor Cairo neighbourhood Thursday (Oct. 12). A suspect was arrested but his motive is still unknown.

Recently, another Coptic priest — the well-known Rev. Boules George from the well-heeled Cairo suburb of Heliopolis — took to the television airwaves to “thank” the Islamic State terrorists who launched the Palm Sunday church bombings that claimed 45 lives, saying they provided “a rocket” that delivered victims straight to heaven.

“Thank you very, very, very much,” George told the viewers of his program on Egypt’s Coptic TV channel just hours after the terror attacks. “You have given us the death of Christ himself, and this is the greatest honor that of any of us can attain.”

The Islamic State intensified its insurgency in the Sinai Peninsula and targeted Copts, Coptic churches, police and military facilities in Egypt after the 2013 ousting of ex-President Mohammed Morsi, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Glorifying a particularly bloody December attack on a Cairo church, the militants in February released a video declaring that Christians in Egypt were their new “favorite prey” and pledging to wage a “jihad” similar to that in Iraq and Syria, where tens of thousands of Christians have become refugees after fleeing the militants.

Comprising an estimated 10 percent of Egypt’s 90 million people, the Coptic Church is the largest Christian denomination in the Middle East and North Africa.

“We are Egyptian citizens as well as Christians,” said Al-Janoubie. “We need to stop viewing this harassment toward us with pride and saying terrorism gives us a chance to play the same role our ancestors did like in those Sunday school stories about the torture of martyrs.”

Coptic leader Pope Tawadros II, however, has publicly supported the idea that the church derives strength from these deaths of the faithful.

“The blood of our martyrs, the tearful prayers of our monks, and the sweat of all those who serve the church is the source of our spiritual power,” said Tawadros in a Sept. 13 message to the faithful.

Some in the hierarchy of the Coptic Church say martyrdom is widely misunderstood.

“It is true that we love martyrdom, but we also love life,” said Bishop Raphael, the No. 2 man in the Coptic curia. “We do not hate life on earth, because our Lord created us to live in it, not to die.”

This summer, Raphael implemented an Egyptian Interior Ministry directive to suspend church events in difficult-to-secure locations in order to minimize exposure to new attacks. “The fact that we receive death with a spiritual philosophy does not mean that our blood is cheap,” said the bishop.

Still, Raphael is calling for erecting a new church dedicated to the 28 martyrs of a jihadist attack in May that occurred on a desert road between the Egyptian city of Minya and the monastery of Samuel the Confessor — a sixth-century saint tortured at the hands of a rival Byzantine Christian sect.

It’s hard to argue against martyrdom for the 28 people who died in the attack, some community members say. Survivors said their assailants ordered them to fast because it was the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, killed their husbands and brothers, and ordered them to convert to Islam.

“After spraying us with gunfire and taking our jewelry, they ordered the women and children who were still alive to recite a testimony to convert to Islam,” said Hanan Adel, a 28-year-old survivor.

As can be expected, these horror stories don’t inspire all Copts to embrace martyrdom.
