A lot of what’s passed off as Aboriginal culture today is actually Aboriginal religion — pagan beliefs no longer embraced by most Aboriginal Australians. Christians must use discernment on these issues.
You will see in all the major cities of Australia on 26th January a smoking ceremony being performed. This ceremony is disguised, and is presented to you as ‘Aboriginal culture’, but it is not what it seems. I do not want to criticise or denigrate Aboriginal culture, but I have a serious concern.
This ceremony is Aboriginal religion, linked to diabolical demon spirits, portrayed to the Australian public as ancestral spirits. But when you participate in the smoking ceremony, you automatically open the door to the spirit-world, and you give millions of demons legal access into your life and your family and into society.
The result is the break-up of marriages and families. People will hear voices, have mental breakdowns, even suicides. This ceremony puts a curse on you and, sooner or later — be warned — it will catch up with you and affect your life.
Raised on Kimberley cattle country, Rodney Rivers (68) the author of this article, is fluent in 4 Indigenous Australian languages. He lives in Perth with his wife Glenys. Rodney is a descendant of the Moola Bulla, Gidja and Gooniyandi Indigenous tribes. A talented musician and singer-songwriter, Rodney has performed Australia-wide and has toured with Slim Dusty’s guitarist Barry Thornton.
Working as an ethnic and Indigenous translator for the Summer Institute of Linguists in Darwin, Rodney has been significantly involved in Scripture translation work for Australia’s first Creole Bible translation, published by the Bible Society Australia.
Rodney is on the committee for A National Act of Recognition of the First Peoples of Australia and Torres Strait. A core action is to invite every Australian to gather at Botany Bay at a date to be advised to publically denounce and declare unacceptable any false notion of “a land belonging to no one” that there may have been when taking possession of Australia. “We’re all going to go there and dig a grave and bury that lie of terra nullius and any personal hang ups people got and have a celebration. Black and white, let’s walk away from Botany Bay and rebuild this nation for the Lord Jesus Christ,” said Rodney.
“My passion for Australia is that one day I’d like to see the Glory of the Lord cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. The Lord gave me a vision back in the mid 1980s. He took me up to a different realm and showed me this global move, global outpouring of the Holy Spirit that started here in Australia. There is a wave coming as well for the South Pacific Islands. My role as an Indigenous person is to prepare the way for what is coming.”
Let each of us make sure we know what our role is in preparing the way for what is coming prior to Jesus return to restore righteousness.
