THE SIGNIFICANCE OF JESUS MEETING WITH ELIJAH AND MOSES ON MT TRANSFIGURATION

I found this video to be exceptional. I learnt so much more about why God orchestrated this meeting on Mt Transfiguration: who was there, the timing, the context is so important, and what was achieved. There was an important legal reason (Deuteronomy 19:15), a prophetic reason (Malachi 4:4-6), an emotional reason, and God the Father confirmed who Jesus is: This is My beloved So Listen to Him!” (Mark 9:7) and finally Peter was able to give this amazing declaration:

For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

IMPORTANCE OF JESUS’ TRANSFIGURATION ON MT TABOR AND THE APPEARANCE OF MOSES AND ELIJAH

Jesus did many extraordinary things while on earth as a human. One such extraordinary event that occurred was Jesus meeting with the supposed long-dead Elijah and Moses. This episode explains the reason for this meeting and its significance to all believers. Interestingly, Jesus selected Peter, James, and John to accompany him to view His transfiguration

And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.Matthew 17:2-3, Mark 9:2-3 & Luke 28:28-29

Jesus had already shared with the disciples His mission on Earth, that he had to die but then He would be raised to life but the disciples did not understand the full extent of what God and Jesus were accomplishing for mankind.

The fact that Jesus was transfigured before them confirmed His heavenly origins, as well the appearance in a glorified state of Moses and Elijah who had been dead thousands of years confirmed life after death. It is interesting that Peter, James and John knew who Moses and Elijah were without Jesus having to introduce them. Hence this event and its timing was important in the progression of Jesus revealing who He was and His mission on Earth.
