HOW JOANNA AND JAMES HOWE WERE STITCHED UP BY THE NEWS MEDIA

Journalists use loaded language, selective quotes and misleading headlines to shape public opinion, using a controversial report about James and Joanna Howe as a case study.

It’s been a few weeks since the media declared all-out war on James and Joanna Howe. Compare what James said with what made it into the article. Kaplan quotes him as saying, “consent is not even a freaking thing for me” and “I just don’t do consent”. But she leaves out the two lines where he explains what he means: “I do marriage, man”, and his description of marriage as “the only consent that works”. Leave those lines out, and James sounds like a man who’d force himself onto his wife. AllSides calls this bias by omission.

Now read the headline again: “‘I don’t give a f***’: Husband’s wild consent claim sparks fury.” It invites readers to assume James doesn’t care whether his wife consents to sex. But that’s not at all what he said. Moments earlier, Joanna had warned him on air that his words would be clipped and used against him. “I don’t give a f***” was his reply. In other words, he didn’t care how critics would misrepresent him. News.com.au stripped the line of its context and made it the headline. AllSides calls this sensationalism.

The Story They Chose Not to Tell

The subtlest technique of all — because it’s invisible on the page — is story choice. Joanna Howe has given news.com.au no shortage of newsworthy material, from helping draft pro-life legislation that passed South Australia’s upper house, to organising petitions that drew tens of thousands of signatures, to running one of the country’s largest social media advertising campaigns.

Indeed, on the very day Kaplan’s article went up, the Howes were preparing for a thousands-strong rally outside New South Wales Parliament, where MPs would vote the next day on banning sex-selective abortion. Why wasn’t that the story? Instead, James’s out-of-context podcast quotes were served up as the “news”.

For those of us who are reading God’s Word daily we understand that God told us that spiritual warfare would increase exponentially as we approach the time of Jesus return to restore righteousness and defeat his arch enemy Satan. Note: “you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake.”

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24:9-14

END TIME CHURCH THAT FACES THE WRATH OF GOD

God shows us with the seven churches and the seven seals what unfolds in the last seven years prior to Jesus return to rescue His nation Israel and to initiate His Millennial Kingdom, the final 1000 years before God destroys the Cosmos and creates a new Heaven and new Earth where only the righteous dwell (Revelation 21 & 22). “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man.” Revelation 21:1-3

I believe that Biblical prophecy shows us that the seven churches and the seven seals reveal what is unfolding in the churches and in the world in each of the last seven years. The sixth church and the sixth seal reveal that the rapture takes place at the end of the sixth year which means that the wrath of God poured out on an unrepentant Earth lasts for one year (in fact one year and 10 days as it takes place the year before a Jubilee year).

To the sixth church, the church of Philadelphia God says, “Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.” Rev. 3:10

Moreover, it is at the sixth seal we see the celestial signs that appear before the great day of the Lord and God says, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?” Rev. 6:16

It is then that the wrath of God begins to pour out on an unrepentant world with the terrible trumpet and bowl judgements.

“The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed hail and fire, mixed with blood, and these were thrown upon the earth. And a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.“ Rev. 8:7

There is a seventh church, the church of Laodicea that is left on the Earth to face the wrath of God. What does God say to it? “I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, ‘I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.“ Rev. 3:15-16

Jesus’ words to the church in Laodicea are severe but they are also spoken to people he deeply loves.

“As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline,” he tells them (Revelation 3:19). His stern warnings are not a sign that these Laodiceans were outside the Church. Quite the opposite: Hebrews 12:5–6 affirms that while the Lord’s discipline is hard to hear, he disciplines “the one he loves and punishes every son he receives.” These believers belong to him, and that is precisely why he will not leave them as they are. Hence, He also says to them, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’” Rev. 3:20-22

Many belonging to the Laodicean church will be powerful witnesses during the time God pours out His wrath upon the Earth. God will protect them from His wrath with a seal on their forehead, but many will be martyrs at the hands of the Antichrist.

“Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth. They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green plant or any tree, but only those people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. They were allowed to torment them for five months, but not to kill them, and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings someone. And in those days people will seek death and will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them.” Rev. 9:3-6

FRANKLIN GRAHAM “GOD LOVES YOU TOUR”

“More than 10,000 people gathered in Manchester to worship and hear a gospel message preached by Franklin Graham. The evangelist said in a post on X that “hundreds responded to the invitation to repent and receive Jesus Christ by faith” at the Co-Op Live on Saturday. Christians from across the northwest and further afield came with their churches, friends and neighbours to the God Loves You Tour, organised by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Graham told those in attendance that lasting hope and purpose can only be found in a personal relationship with Jesus, urging them to consider whether they had put their faith in Christ. He asked: “Are you ready to stand before God? Are you ready to give an account to Him? The Bible says it’s appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). Note this verse refers to Jesus second coming to save those eagerly waiting for Him. Are you eagerly waiting for Him? You should be as the many Biblical end times prophecies are manifesting in our day.

“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”

The evangelist drew upon the Genesis account of Lot leaving Sodom, suggesting that some in the audience may feel the same way about being surrounded by sin and misery. But Graham said that “God is offering you forgiveness. He’s offering you cleansing. He’s offering you a new life, a new beginning through faith in his Son, Jesus Christ. But you’ve got to choose.”

He ended with a call for those who had not previously put their trust in the Lord to come forward and do so. I am disappointed that He made no reference to Jesus second coming and that time is short to get on with the job God has called each one of us to do: to save the lost.

2026 ARC CONFERENCE WAS A NOBLE ENDEAVOUR

The Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) is an annual summit of some 4,000 culture-makers from across the globe who refuse the verdict that decline is inevitable, or that cultural self-hatred is a virtue. Instead — in the words of ARC’s founders — “by drawing on our moral, cultural, economic, and spiritual foundations, we hope to develop a more hope-filled vision for the future and re-lay the foundations of our civilisation”.

Great minds like Konstantin Kisin, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Rod Dreher, Michael Shellenberger, Sir Paul Marshall and Katy Faust reminded us, the West may not be perfect but it is the cauldron of humanity’s highest aspirations — from universal literacy to the free market to the industrial revolution and representative self-government. Ours is the civilisation that invented the individual, pioneered the university, birthed modern science, eradicated slavery and globalised human rights.

No civilisation’s faults are beyond critique. What defies all reason are blanket denunciations of the West, so fashionable today, that run in parallel with an amnesia about its countless blessings and a refusal to judge other civilisations by the same impossibly high standards.

The crisis before us, ARC argues, is one of deconstruction. “Generations of Westerners have been taught to hate their own civilisation,” as Kisin put it in the event’s first session. “They’ve been taught that up is down and that good is evil.” Our liberalising impulse, he argued, “has mutated from the pursuit of freedom from tyranny to the pursuit of freedom from reality.”

Worse still is that those sponsoring the West’s demolition offer nothing substantive in its place. Speaking to ideologies like critical theory, Net Zero, DEI and post-colonialism, Sir Paul Marshall explained: “Almost all of these ideas and narratives are parasitic. They feed off an historic body of good foundational ideas but then pervert and erode them. None come from a place of optimism. None of them bring unity. None of them set out a path to human flourishing.”

There is no one with more clarity or hard-won insight to interrogate our modern maladies than Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who fled Islam in Somalia in her 20s to become one of the West’s foremost apologists. True to form, she did not disappoint at ARC this year.

In a sit-down interview with Kisin, Ali described the conditions she escaped: violence, forced marriage, compulsory religion, a scapegoating reflex that blames all ill fortunes on the West or the Jews, schools as indoctrination machines, police as agents of state terror.

On securing asylum in the Netherlands, Ali explained, she was floored to discover a world untold — of women able to choose their own husbands and careers, people free to worship or not worship as their conscience led, schools that imparted knowledge and formed character, police whose goal was to help, journalism that held governments to account, and a society that resolved conflict without brutality.

This is the unparalleled bounty of Western civilisation, she told ARC’s audience — and it’s precisely what we risk losing unless we adjust our current trajectory.

In pressing home just one example, Ali explained that when she first came to the West, “I could walk day and night freely, bicycle about 24 hours a day if I wanted to, wearing whatever I wanted to. And now, a few decades on, we’re in a place where women are afraid to go out.” As evidence, she invoked Britain’s rape gang scandal that victimised up to 250,000 young people, according to a recent report.

In short, the third worldism from which our civilisation originally set itself apart is one we can expect to return to if we refuse to correct course. Fortunately, God has told us the end of HIS STORY and after Satan and his Antichrist are defeated, next on God’s agenda for planet Earth is Jesus Millennial Kingdom. The nation God established for His purposes will finally fulfil its destiny with its Messiah, Jesus ruling the nations of the world from a magnificent new Jerusalem.

WHY JESUS COMES A SECOND TIME

“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:27-28

This verse clearly explains the purposes of Jesus two comings to planet Earth, first to deal with the sin problem and the second to save all of those eagerly waiting for Him. But there is also unfulfilled business with the nation God established for His purposes, Israel.

There are about three hundred Biblical prophecies of Jesus first coming but there are about two thousand prophecies of Jesus second coming and Jesus and the glorified Saints ruling and reigning over the nations during Jesus Millennial Kingdom. This makes it clear that God wants us to know and be prepared for Jesus second coming. In Jesus Olivet Discourse he gives us a great deal of information about the tribulation, even great tribulation that Christians will experience as Satan does His utmost to thwart God’s plans.

“As he (Jesus) sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Matthew 24:3

“And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.
“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. When God established Israel as His nation He did it through one man, Abraham and the covenant He made with Abraham and confirmed with His sons Isaac and Jacob has not been fulfilled as yet. Moreover, beginning with Moses, all the OT prophets were shown the end of Israel’s story: Israel will be the lead nation of the world with their Messiah ruling and reigning over all the nations.

Moses told the nation before they went into the promised land that God would drive them out and scatter them for disobedience:

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that you will soon utterly perish from the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess. You will not live long in it, but will be utterly destroyed. And the Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the Lord will drive you.” Deuteronomy 4:26-27

But God also revealed to them that He would regather them in the last days back to their land which He did in 1948. This was the first of the major prophesied Biblical end times signs.

“But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in tribulation, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the Lord your God and obey his voice. For the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.” Deuteronomy 4:29-31
