As I mentioned in my post, “Age of the World is a Critical Issue for Understanding the Bible”, Dr. Humphreys reveals in his book Evidence for a Young World that there is a great deal of evidence for the short timescale given in the Bible: galaxies wind themselves up too fast, comets disintegrate too quickly, not enough mud on the seafloor, not enough sodium in the sea, the earth’s magnetic field is decaying too fast, biological materials (found in dinosaur bones) decay too fast, too much helium in minerals, and toomuch carbon -14 in deep geologic strata.
Last post we looked at the earths magnetic field and the fact it is decaying too fast for the world’s history to be more than thousands of years, certainly not billions.
Dr. Humphreys was part of a very important RATE project (Radioisotopes and the age of the Earth). It involved eleven Ph.D. scientists pictured below. This helped answer a major old-earth argument about radiometric-dating.
Front row: John Bamgardner, Larry Vardiman, Russell Humphreys, Gene Chaffin, Middle row: Andrew Snelling, Steve Austin, Don DeYoung, Back row: John Morris, Ken Cumming, Bill Hoesch, Steven Boyd.
Dr Humphreys work concerned small, hard mineral crystals called zircons, which often contain radioactive elements. As these decay, they produce helium. Helium leaks out quickly due to its very small hard atoms. The hotter the material the faster it leaks out. Dr Humphreys measured amounts of helium in zircons, and compared it to the amount expected from the decay and helium leakage measured in the laboratory.
Zircon crystals from a borehole in New Mexico have a helium leakage of about 6000 years. In contrast the uranium-lead age of the crystals is about 1.5 billion years. The uranium-lead age of course assumes that the decay rate is the same slow rate we measure today.
The Bible reveals that God created a mature world. Hence the Rate Team believes the decay rate initially was speeded up, also the catastrophic plate tectonic upheaval at Noah’s Flood would have had an effect on the decay rate. It cannot be assumed that no daughter elements existed at the beginning and the decay rate was uniform.
There is a great deal of evidence for a young world that supports the Bible’s history of around 6000 years, certainly not billions of years.
Dr Russell Humphreys says, “The age of the world is a critical issue for understanding the Bible and its history, and the idea of evolution over billions of years cannot tolerate a short timescale.
In his book and video, Evidence for a Young World, Dr. Humphreys reveals that there is a great deal of evidence for the short timescale given in the Bible: galaxies wind themselves up too fast, comets disintegrate too quickly, not enough mud on the seafloor, not enough sodium in the sea, the earth’s magnetic field is decaying too fast , biological materials (found in dinosaur bones) decay too fast, too much helium in minerals, and toomuch carbon -14 in deep geologic strata. The book and video, Evidence for a Young World are available from http://www.creation.com. In it, he is bold enough to claim “scientific evidence for a young world is the best support for the Bible’s history”.

In this post we will look at Dr Humphreys thoughts and predictions on Magnetic Field Decay.
The earth has a strong magnetic field and all agree that it is generated by electric current. In addition, basic electromagnetic physics says that once a current is set up, it should decay steadily. Dr Humphrey’s explains that the data supports this. “The energy of the electric current has been steadily decaying. The amount of current (in amperes) has decayed with a 1600 – year half-life. However, the magnetic field intensity varies from place to place and has sometimes behaved erratically. Archaeomagnetic measurements (magnetisations of bricks and pottery) show that the field intensity has been decaying steadily for the past 1000 years. Working backward even only 30,000 years, the electric current would have been strong enough to melt the earth! So, as Russell explains, evolutionists have tried to come up with a self-generating dynamo to keep the field going for billions of years. “Although they have used supercomputers and large laboratory experiments, they have not come up with anything more than sophisticated ‘hand waving’.
One criticism of creation science is that it makes no successful predictions. This not true, Dr. Humphreys has made a number of successful predictions that shook the scientific establishment. In particular, his predictions of the magnetic fields of the ‘gas giants’ Uranus and Neptune were proved correct by the Voyager 2 spacecraft when it flew by in 1986 contrary to all the evolutionary predictions. Likewise, his prediction of the magnetic field of Mercury was confirmed by the Messenger probe in 2012.

Prof. Heck does a thorough job of demonstrating that the Bible is largely narrative and provides an accurate account of the history of our planet from Creation through to Jesus entry into history just over 2000 years ago.
It is accurate because it was revealed by God to the authors. Confirmation the authors were inspired by God are the prophecies they were given which have subsequently come to pass.
The 8th Annual Society of Creation conference June 2020 presentation by Rev. Prof. Joel Heck, ThD
Christians believe the Bible is the Word of God, but how do we know that’s true? How did we get the collection of books we call the Bible, and can we trust them?
Gary Bates and Lita Cosner of CMI do a good job of explaining why Christians believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. Fulfilled prophecies are for me convincing proof. Also, the fact that Jesus believed the words Moses and the O.T. prophets wrote so why shouldn’t I? Jesus made it possible for our Heavenly Father to send the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit to indwell my spirit, to be my counsellor, teacher and comforter. He has changed my life for the better. This is all the proof I need.
Americans who identify as Christian but do not profess to know Christ personally as Savior — now comprise 54 percent of the U.S. population.
Sadly, a Biblical world view is held by a declining number in denominational churches:
20% of those who attend evangelical Protestant churches.
16% of those who attend charismatic or Pentecostal churches .
8% of those who attend Protestant churches.
1%of those that attendCatholicchurches
GeorgeBarna, research director at the Cultural Research Center based at Arizona Christian University, went on to explain that the dominant values in the United States today are acceptance, comfort, control, entertainment, entitlement, experiences, expression, freedom, and happiness. Those contemporary values highlight the profound contrast from previous eras in which a more widely accepted biblical worldview yielded civic duty, hard work, humility, faith, family, moderation and the rule of law.
Education at government schools and universities has been hostile to a biblical worldview ever since Darwinian evolution replaced biblical creation as the explanation for the existence of the Cosmos and more specifically Earth.
The age of the earth is a momentous issue. The Bible clearly teaches a young earth and fortunately the evidence supporting the Biblical view is now strong. Ministries such as Creation Ministries, Creation Research Institute, Answers in Genesis, all with a strong team of PhD scientists with distinguished careers are doing a great job. I am most familiar with CMI http://www.creation.com and can strongly recommend it as a source of information and resources.
Why is the age of the earth such a critical issue? You can’t have death and suffering before mankind which is the case with evolution.
God’s Word tells us there was no death prior to THE FALL. Adam and Eve’s SIN (rebellion against God – disobeyed His commandment not to eat of the fruit of the Tree of Good and Evil. The consequences of doing so was death (spiritual then physical).
Two important creation issues you need to make yourself familiar with are:
1.The role Noah’s Floodin determining the age of the earth. It was a devastating worldwide flood that totally changed the geomorphology of this planet. It also buried billions of dead things quickly all over the world. What do we find? Billions of dead things in the fossil record, many intact demonstrating rapid burial, along with fossil fuel (oil) in abundance.
2. Genetic Entropy demonstrates that the human genome is deteriorating due to the accumulation of mutations. It has been irreversibly deteriorating since THE FALL and the rate of deterioration is such that human race is headed for extinction. The work of distinguished geneticist Dr John Sanford (invented the gene gun) and author of the book Genetic Entropy & The Mystery of the Genome has shown that the rate of deterioration is such that man could not have been on this earth longer than 6,000 years. Evolution cannot explain how complex information was formed in the genome in the first place and it has no answers on how to keep it there. Life is not going up, up up. It is going down, down, down.
Listen to Dr Mark Harwood tell you why the church needs Creation Ministries. Let me commend this ministry to you. It played a large role in my conversion at age 47. Evolution being a major stumbling block to my acceptance of Biblical inerrancy.
Many church denominations and their associated Bible Colleges have accepted evolution and billions of years of earth’s history. As a result, they have rejected the Genesis account of creation. This is devastating, as Genesis is the foundational book of the Bible where most of church doctrine is established.
No sacred book of any other world religion reveals future events as does the Bible. It is unique in this regard. God’s prophets predict with amazing accuracy and descriptive detail – events of history many centuries before they took place and future events up to the end of this age.
“For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done,” Isaiah 56:9-10
The ability to predict history with such accuracy implies the ability to control history. In fact, God the creator, the one who sustains the cosmos can say without contradiction, “My purposes will stand.”
One of the major themes of biblical prophecy is the destiny of Israel. From the birth of Israel as a nation to the final consummation of their destiny, every major stage has been predicted by its prophets. At least 80 percent of these prophecies have been already fulfilled, so it is reasonable to presume that the other 20 percent will be fulfilled with equal accuracy.
Interwoven with Israel’s history is the destiny of another people the church of Jesus Christ. The church had its origin within Israel and all the early Christians were Jews.
Jesus was Israel’s long awaited Messiah, but sadly the Pharisees and Sadducee’s rejected Him, and the Jews were cast out of their homeland and scattered across the world exactly as prophesied. However, the Bible tells us that God would gather them from all the nations and bring them back to their homeland at the appointed time. This extraordinary event happened in 1948, and it signalled one of the major signs Jesus gave us of His second coming.
Slide from Prophesied Restoration of Israel – Prior to Jesus Second Coming
One of the most exciting features of the period in which we live is that the destinies of Israel and the church are beginning to converge. Berean Christians recognise from the prophecies that Israel’s regathering to their homeland is one of the signs preparatory to Jesus second coming.
Is your church preparing its members for the tribulation that is prophesied prior to Jesus return? Is your church actively engaged in bringing in the “end times” harvest? If not, get into prayer to determine what it is God would have you do at this critical time in earths history.

This post is extracted from a great article – Christian theology and the rise of Newtonian science—imposed law and the divine will by Dominic Statham in Journal of Creation32(2):103–109, August 2018
“At the heart of scientific enquiry is the faith that the world is orderly and behaves consistently from one day to the next.1 One might ask, however, how this belief arose. According to Peter Harrison, formerly Professor of Science and Religion at Oxford University, it was, in a large part, “the theologically informed assumption that there are laws of nature, promulgated by God and able to be discovered by human minds (emphasis added)”.2 Eminent Philosopher of Science Alfred North Whitehead would agree. He wrote: “My explanation is that the faith in the possibility of science, generated antecedently to the development of modern scientific theory, is an unconscious derivative from medieval theology.”3
Platonic thinking was antithetical to science because it detracted from the view that the world could be understood by learning from observations. In contrast, biblical thinking pointed to this as the only way of discovering reality. The Bible teaches that God is omnipotent and was in no way constrained to create according to any prescribed pattern.
The rejection of Greek thinking by the founders of modern science is exemplified in Roger Cotes’ preface to the second edition of Isaac Newton’s Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy):
“Without all doubt this World … could arise from nothing but the perfectly free will of God directing and presiding over all. From this fountain it is that those laws, which we call the laws of Nature, have flowed; in which there appear many traces indeed of the most wise contrivance, but not the least shadow of necessity. These therefore we must not seek from uncertain conjectures; but learn them from observations and experiments.”
Newton himself, in the very first sentence of his preface, wrote of how modern thinkers, having discarded “[soulish] substantial forms and occult qualities have endeavoured to subject the phenomena of nature to the laws of mathematics”. A committed biblical creationist, he also rejected the Greek view that God would have been constrained in His acts of creation in any way. He wrote of God:
“ … we admire him for his perfections; but we reverence and adore him on account of his dominion … and a God without dominion, providence, and final causes [i.e. design], is nothing else but Fate [i.e. necessity] and Nature.”20
Newton also wrote:
“This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being. … This Being governs all things, not as the soul of the world, but as Lord over all; and on account of his dominion he is wont to be called Lord God or Universal Ruler.”27
Plato taught that the cosmos created by the Demiurge was a living organism, that the world had a divine soul, and the stars and planets were gods. In a similar vein, Aristotle taught that stones fall to the ground because they have a yearning for the centre of the universe (which he believed to be the centre of the earth). Such thinking was an obstruction to science because it attributed causes of motion to motives and inner compulsions, rather than to impersonal, external forces.21
In contrast, the Bible clearly distinguishes between the Creator and the creature (i.e. that which was created). God is spirit (John 4:24) and is a being separate from the world.
The lawgiver
The God of the Bible is the lawgiver in both the moral and physical realms. He gave the 10 commandments to Moses (Exodus 20:3–17) and wrote the requirements of the law on the hearts of men so that they “by nature do what the law requires” (Romans 2:14–15). He is the one who gathered the waters together (Genesis 1:9) and “assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command” (Proverbs 8:29). He “made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of the thunder” (Job 28:26). He created the sun to govern the day and night (Genesis 1:16), “commanded the morning … and caused the dawn to know its place” (Job 38:12). He created the stars to mark the seasons (Genesis 1:14), knows “the ordinances of the heavens”, and established “their rule on the earth” (Job 38:33). He continually “upholds the universe by the word of his power” (Hebrews 1:3).
Picture of the father of mathematics Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
He stated that “the rules of nature are identical with the rules of mechanics” and, in his Le Monde (The World), he asserted “that God is immutable, and that acting always in the same manner, He produces always the same effect”. These laws, he said, are not immanent but ‘imposed’ on nature by God.39
The courses of the planets, the oceanic tides and the universe in general are regular and predictable because they are determined by the God of the Bible who is faithful and sure. Descartes’ contention that the natural world is governed by an unchanging God, and hence behaves consistently from one day to the next, was an essential step in scientific progress.
The belief that there are laws imposed upon a world by an orderly, faithful, and immutable God caused philosophers to see the universe as a designed mechanism, rather than an eternally existing organism. This, in turn, led to the belief that the workings of God’s creation could be investigated, understood, and described mathematically. All this hung on the Christian doctrine of creation, as articulated so clearly in the Nicene Creed: “We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of all things visible and invisible.”
Archaeologists were excited by the discovery of a seal and a small clay seal impression (bulla), with ancient Hebrew script on them on the western slope of the City of David, Jerusalem.
This wonderful find serves to connect another specifically named individual from the Bible to real physical history in the correct time period, confirming that we can be confident the Bible is reliable.
The 2,700-year-old seal impression translates as “[belonging] to Nathan-Melech, Servant of the King”. In 2 Kings 23:11, Nathan-Melek is named as an official of the godly King Josiah of Judah (7th century BC).
The items were found inside the remains of a large public administrative building that was likely destroyed during the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem in 586 bc. Archaeologist Dr Yiftah Shalev of the Israel Antiquities Authority explained, “What is important is not just that they were found in Jerusalem, but [that they were found] inside their true archaeological context. It is not a coincidence that the seal and the seal impression are found here.”

Geologist Dr Timothy Clarey earned a B.S. in geology summa cum laude, an M.S. in geology from the University of Wyoming, and an M.S. in hydrogeology and a Ph.D. in geology (1996) from Western Michigan University. Tim spent nearly 10 years in the oil exploration industry and 17 years in academia which gives him a unique perspective for his work at the International Creation Research Institute. Tim joined ICR as a full-time geologist in 2013. His first major (and current) research project is called the Column Project. Tim explains:
It entails plotting stratigraphic columns from oil well, outcrop, and even seismic data into a database, continent by continent. Basically, I’m plotting the actual rocks that are in place all over the globe. So far, I have three continents completed and another nearly finished. All the continents show the same sedimentation patterns that reflect a single watery catastrophe. They all begin with minimal sedimentary coverage and rock volume, and reach a peak in coverage and volume on all continents at the same time. The results are showing the true global nature of the Flood.
Although Tim’s work deals with rocks and fossils, it is significant for affirming the trustworthiness of the Bible and the integrity of the Gospel. Tim explains:
The truth of God’s Word is on the line, and ultimately, salvation is on the line. The Bible makes it clear that God created everything in six literal days some 6,000 years ago. He put the genealogies in the Bible for a reason. We must believe He did what He said. Sadly, evolution and long-age thinking are turning people away from God. We need to show people that they can trust God and His written Word.
If God’s Word is shown to be untrue or even partially untrue, it would undermine Jesus’ credibility. If the parts of the Bible that says certain events happened when they really didn’t—are merely stories—then who’s to say whether other parts of the Bible, like the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ, aren’t just stories, too? We have to believe all of God’s Word, from the very first word to the last. And the biggest problem most people have in doing that is with the book of Genesis and its accounts of creation and the global Flood.
I’m excited that my research is showing people the global Flood as described in the Bible really happened, and that the evidence, correctly interpreted, shows how the water rose and covered the entire planet. That’s why I am so passionate about it. God’s Word is truly true! And Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Believing and accepting the truth of Jesus’ sacrifice and His shed blood is what salvation is all about. I am just thankful that God is able to use me in this way.
